Ultimate , or Ultimate Frisbee as it is commonly known, is an exciting, non-contact sport played by thousands the world over. Mixing the best features of sports such as Basketball, Netball and American Football, it is an elegantly simple , yet fascinating and demanding game. And it's played with a flying disc . Indoor Ultimate is 5-a-side and played on a similar size court to that used in Basketball. At either end is an 'endzone' and a team scores a point by catching the disc inside the endzone that they are attacking. Players cannot run with the disc and can only have possession for 8 seconds before making a pass. If the disc is intercepted , goes out-of-bounds or touches the floor, it is a turnover and the defensive team takes contol of the disc and becomes the attacking team.
There are no referees in Ultimate. The players make their own foul calls and settle their own disputes. Upholding the principles of fair play and the 'Spirit of the Game' during competition becomes a challenging responsibility for players and is one of the defining aspects of the sport. “Spirit of the Game places the responsibility for fair play on every player. Highly competitive play is encouraged but should never sacrifice the mutual respect between players, adherence to the rules of the game, or the basic joy of play.” (WFDF Rules of Ultimate).
